CW-3 is a monitoring site where water level and barometric pressure were monitored using a pressure transducer and barometer, respectively. These data were recorded on a datalogger every 30 minutes, and the data were transmitted via satellite to NWIS, our national database. This well was originally drilled in 1985 for geothermal energy production. Since 1991, well CW-3 has been used to monitor pressure changes in the thermal aquifer that could result from pumping geothermal fluid for power production at Casa Diablo and to quantify areal strain resulting from crustal unrest. Since autumn, 2006, the well has been monitored by Ormat-Mammoth Pacific, but the data are confidential. | |
