ESN is a monitoring site where ground-water levels are monitored in a nonthermal aquifer in the central south moat of Long Valley Caldera. The water levels are measured using a float and shaft-encoder system and recoreded every 30 minutes on an electronic datalogger. The data are recovered monthly when the site is visited for calibration measurements and entered into NWIS, our national database. Records from this site are used to better understand ground-water recharge, thermal and nonthermal water mixing in the south moat, and changes in spring discharge at the Hot Creek Fish Hatchery.
Well ESN is housed in a steel shelter near Hot Creek Fish Hatchery. View is northwest toward the resurgent dome. Photo taken by C. Farrar, April 2002.
