This view of the Town of Mammoth Lakes town is toward the east. The prominent
knob in the center of photo is the southern edge of the resurgent dome;
the low area to the right is the south moat of Long Valley caldera.
The sliver of blue in the middle right of photo is Lake Crowley.
In the large version of the photo (click on the photo), a thick
rhyolite lava flow can be seen immediately to the left of Lake
Crowley. This flow was erupted onto the caldera floor about
290,000 years ago; Hot Creek Gorge cuts into this flow.
