HCA is a monitoring site upstream of the Gorge Geyser and swimming area of Hot Creek Gorge where streamflow and chemistry are monitored. Stream gaging is done by wading with a current meter at a marked section, near the lower right side of the photo. The discharge rate of thermal springs can change in response to geologic processes such as earthquakes and deformation from magmatic activity.
