MRS is a monitoring site at the Mammoth Ranger Station in the town of Mammoth Lakes where precipitation is monitored continuously, and monthly accumulations are totalled using a weighing bucket gage and chart recorder. Precipitation is important to measure because water levels in shallow wells, springs, and streams respond to precipitation. These data help us distinguish water-level responses to the hydrological cycle from responses to crustal unrest. | |
